Things
to Remember:
- If this is the couple's first baby, they may appreciate more
practical gifts, such as a diaper pail, etc. For parent's who
have already have had a baby, they may like more frilly, cute
or fun gifts because more often than not, they have kept their
useful items from the previous child.
- Choose gifts that will be used. Think about time of year and
climate when buying baby clothes. It is unwise to purchase a newborn
winter suit for a baby that will be born in July.
- To avoid duplicating gifts, ask the shower hostess about what
other people are giving the couple. Also, if the couple is registered
-- be sure to follow the instructions for notification of purchase.
- Just like with any other gift, try to purchase gifts that are
easily returnable. You may find to your disappointment your gift
is a duplicate or the couple needs a different size.
- If you have a limited budget, make arrangements with others
for a joint-gift so you can get the couple something a little
more expensive or a more practical gift than you afford alone.
- Be sure to make your purchase gender-unspecific. Even though
you may know the sex of the baby, it is not 100% accurate. There
have been tales where parents decorate their rooms in a certain
gender-specific way only to be surprised it's not what they expected
when birth-time comes around!
- Check for a baby registry. Some couples register with a particular
company or brand because they like that style and want to keep
it consistent, or because they believe in the safety of those
products.
- Remember - gift certificates make great gifts too - especially
if you're uncertain of what to get or what is needed.

Gift Basket Ideas:
For
Baby - Purchase a diaper pail, baby tub, small wagon or other
baby necessity/toy that can fit items (I'll call this the basket)
and fill it with any of the items listed below. After it's filled,
put a small stuffed animal on top. If items may fall out, wrap the
basket with colored saran wrap. You can then either twist the saran
wrap into long strands and tie around the basket to make a bow or
put a sticky gift bow on top. If you choose not to wrap the basket,
stick or tie a bow anywhere that looks pretty (even on the stuffed
animal). Parents are sure to find this gift not only unique but
