Being Pregnant
Calendar

Until my Due Date: June 13th 2002

Week 17: The baby is forming fat deposits under its skin. By the end of pregnancy this will account for 2-6% of the total body weight. This fat will help the baby maintain its body temperature when they are born. The baby weighs in at about 5 ounces (142 grams). Loud noises may actually cause the baby to startle.

Week 18: The baby is now 20.5 cm or 8.1 inches in total length. It weighs about 7 ounces (198 grams). The bones are continuing to ossify. The pads of the fingers and toes are formed, and the fingerprints are developing.

Week 19: The baby will increase in weight to 8 ounces (227 grams) this week. The female fetus's ovaries now contain primitive egg cells. Lanugo covers the baby's body. This fine hair will remain until birth or soon after.

Permanent teeth buds are forming behind the already formed milk teeth (baby teeth) buds.

Week 20: Lanugo forms from sebum and skin cells to create vernix. This creamy white substance is believed to help protect the baby in your uterus. It will cling to the lanugo and in the creases. This is also something that can be seen sometimes after the birth.

You may be aware of sleep wake cycles in the baby. The weight is now up to 10 ounces (283 grams) and the baby measures about 25 cms total length, which is about 9.8 inches long.
