Week 1: Week one is counted
as the first week of your last menstrual period before you
became pregnant.
Week 2: During
this week your body is preparing (as it does every month since
you started menstruating) to receive a fertilized egg. The lining
of your uterus gets thicker as the egg is released from the
end of your ovary into the fallopian tube that leads to your
uterus.
Week 3: Implantation
will occur this week! The egg and the sperm have met in your
fallopian tube and will begin the 7 to 10 day journey to the
uterus. Cell division begins immediately and continues throughout
this journey. Once it has implanted, the fertilized egg is called
a blastocyst and is about 0.1-0.2 mm in diameter.
Week 4: There is a yolk sac
that helps feed the embryo until a placenta is fully formed
and can function as the means for the baby to receive nourishment
from the mothers blood.
